What is Blue Noise?

Blue noise is the opposite of brown noise — it has increasing power toward the higher end of the frequency spectrum, creating a bright, hissing sound. It's less commonly used for relaxation, but has specific applications for tinnitus relief and staying alert during repetitive tasks.

In audio engineering, blue noise is used for dithering (reducing quantisation errors in digital audio). For wellness purposes, it's sometimes used by audiologists as part of tinnitus sound therapy, and by some users to stay focused during monotonous work without the risk of becoming drowsy.

If you find white or brown noise too drowsy or want a sharper, more "awake" sound environment, blue noise is worth exploring.

Benefits of Blue Noise

  • Tinnitus symptom relief
  • Promotes alertness during repetitive tasks
  • Bright, clean sound quality
  • Reduces drowsiness compared to brown noise
